Hello, I'm Paddy.
I'm one of those lucky people who gets to spend every weekend at the best party in town — and I've been doing it for over two decades. Wedding photography isn't my job. It's the thing I'd be doing anyway.
How it all started
Patrick Ryan Photography has grown from a love of photography into a business that's really about the entire wedding experience, not just taking photographs. Over the years I've realised my role on a wedding day goes far beyond having a camera in my hand — I'm there to help orchestrate the day, keep things moving, sort little problems before they become big ones, and make sure the couple can actually enjoy their own wedding.
I trained under Brian Redmond AIPPA, and in the years since I've photographed weddings the length and breadth of Ireland — grand country houses, village churches, marquees in the family garden, and everything in between.
I bring a lot of energy to a wedding day. I like having a bit of craic with people as much as I like a good photograph, because if I'm relaxed and enjoying myself, the couple usually are too — most tell me afterwards they completely forgot I was even there.
You won't even know I'm there
My style is natural and unposed. No stiff line-ups that eat an hour of your day, no "say cheese." I move quietly through your wedding catching the real moments — your dad's face during the speeches, your friends mid-laugh, the glance the two of you share when nobody's watching.
Those are the photographs you'll still be pulling off the shelf in thirty years.
Calm on the day, every time
After hundreds of weddings, very little surprises me. Rain on the day? I know the sheltered spots at venues all over the midlands. Nervous in front of a camera? Most people are — give me ten minutes and a bit of craic and you'll forget it's there.
My job is to make the photos the easiest part of your whole wedding.
Looking at the pictures after, seeing the joy our guests showed brought a tear to our eyes. The photos were next level imagery — happy is an understatement.
